The Cisco GLC-ZX-SMD is a high-performance 1000BASE-ZX SFP optical transceiver engineered for long-distance Gigabit Ethernet connectivity over single-mode fiber (SMF). Designed for enterprise, service provider, and carrier-grade networks, this module supports link distances of up to approximately 70 km, depending on fiber quality and link conditions.
Operating at a 1550 nm wavelength, the GLC-ZX-SMD delivers reliable, stable performance for metro, campus, and backbone deployments where extended reach is required. The hot-swappable SFP form factor allows for quick installation and easy upgrades without network downtime. Integrated Digital Optical Monitoring (DOM) enables real-time visibility into optical power levels, temperature, and transceiver health, helping network teams proactively manage performance and reliability.
