The Cisco SM-X-8FXS/12FXO is a high-density analog voice and fax service module designed for Cisco 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers. This single-wide service module enables seamless integration between IP-based voice systems and traditional analog telephony infrastructure by providing a balanced mix of FXS and FXO ports.
With 8 FXS ports and 12 FXO ports, this module supports analog phones, fax machines, modems, PBX connections, and PSTN access. It features an onboard digital signal processor (DSP) to handle voice compression, echo cancellation, DTMF detection, and jitter buffering without requiring additional DSP hardware. The module also supports fax relay, modem pass-through, caller ID, and failover bypass functionality to maintain voice connectivity during power interruptions.
